so basically the higher the f# the more the backround is in focus?
the depth of field increases the higher the F# yes. Typically the depth of field extends one 1/3 of the total DOF amount in front of the point of focus and 2/3rds behind it. For example if you had 6" of depth of field 2" would be in front of the point of focus.
thats how i've always looked at it i mean.
