A follow up from this starting point with notes for me to refer to:
a. 2" @ f11 iso 200 cable release. 50mm on a 40D, full frame image. b. Front 580Ex 1/32 power with diffuser c. Rear 580Ex 1/64 power zoomed in to 105mm as a spotlight. Reduced to 1/64 because it was much closer than the main flashgun. d. Flashes triggered from microphone (200mm away), 0.006 seconds delay.
Obviously a backwards step from the first attempt but I've learned a few things:
1. The balloon skin needs to be very stretched so that the internal forces in the skin help to peel the balloon away from the water. This balloon wasn't under as much pressure as the first attempt and it just hasn't ripped apart as fast even with a delay of 0.006secs.
2. Black background and backlighting is going to work nicely.
3. Adding food colouring to the water is also a good idea.
4. I need to spike the balloon directly under the centre of the balloon as this one was popped with a pin slightly to the right as you look at it.
5. Wearing light coloured clothing is bad with food dye flying around !
Next attempt will probably use the same settings but with a balloon stretched over the water a lot more.
Still need a bigger bucket !!!
Number of balloons killed 14 since I started playing
This reminds me of a photo of a flower I saw a long time ago. The flower was upsidedown so the petals looked like a dress. This looks like that flower. Though the colors are different.
Basically, I love the wrinkles in that balloon.

This looks something off Time Warp. Simply amazing
Obviously, because it's making me talk like someone in a vintage superhero comic (!)
